1000 x Architecture is a photographic documentation of individual houses in Strasshof an der Nordbahn/Lower Austria. Crouching and shy, lofty and proud, modest but well-ordered, they look out of their lands. We have visited and recorded some of them.....in a typological way...
1000 X Architecture
|Location||Strasshof an der Nordbahn|
The single house is a reflection of an architectural history that manifests always in different ways.
No seriously meant caricature could ever come near to this image.
And what when reality becomes a caricature?
1000 buildings and 1000 architects-that was the first impression we got when we drove through Strasshof an der Nordbahn in Lower Austria. – planned in an orthogonal street grid based on a US example. The city was not completed in this sense, but the plots were built on at some point.
Each house a planet on its own, each planet has its own rings. Only that these houses, in contrast to the planets that are dependent from each other, don’t have anything to do with each other, though they have at least 2 common property lines.
A city has got lots of boundaries, rules and laws, inside as well as outside…
Yet one of the basic qualities of a city is the fact that it builds a functioning coherent structure, not only in a material way but also on a social, economic and political scale. A city, that means a meeting point, interchange, commerce.
The city: It’s a melting pot! That’s the origin of the concept… the vision of boundaries.
In this case? : We let the actors speak!
The images were created as part of the IMAGINATION STADT for the book project „Lernen vom Raster – Strasshof an der Nordbahn und seine verborgenen Pläne“ (ed. Judith Eiblmayr, 2014).
